HOW I GOT GREAT PAYING JOBS WITH NO DIPLOMA AND ZERO EXPERIENCE

Getting a good job has never been easier, with the sudden rise of job sites and access to offers in the comfort of your own home, wether your a fresh graduate, or someone who wants to start his career right out of highschool! It’s possible.

How I did it

My very first job offer was at 17 years old, and started working the day I turned 18 at a job most would need a college education to achieve, by 19 I already started and failed at 4 different busines ventures, by 20 I became a junior partner of a contract growing business, By 21 I was a associate stock broker, publishing consultant and marketing consultant for authors in the U.S,both of which gave me the opportunity to earn equal to that of a hotel manager in the Philippines, shortly afterwards I was offered to spearhead the Brand management of a beach resort in Cebu, and the Cebu branch of a newly established swim wear company, both of which I turned down to again try my luck in entrepreneurship.

All these opportunities were created by someone with no diploma, no actual experience in the industry, and certainly no refferor to vouch for me.

What you will read are the two most basic yet undoubtedly most important, however! As an individual still miles away from half of what I hope to become, only take from this what is applicable to you, if you find something that you do not agree with, I ask you to simply disregard it.

Learn outside the system

If you have no experience, or one without a college diploma, let me tell you something I have found to be true, as well as what my senior co workers told me, “most of what you’ll be doing you will learn on the job not in school”.

So here’s a simple peice of advice to those with no experience, Become Self Taught! Even before you get the job start learning about the industry you wish to get into, what is required, who are the leaders, what are the trends nowadays etc. Try to ask from people already in that industry, random questions related to that industry, so that when the time comes for your interview, you will actually be able to converse properly, try to bring up topics you didnt learn in school, use phrases like, I was reading the other day, I researched something earlier, From what I understand based on my research, in my personal understanding, etc.

Show that you are different and that you care enough to learn outside your schools system about your industry, this shows you will be easier to teach on the job.

Chances are if you answer based on what you heard in school, your employer has heard the same answer your fellow graduates said.

If you have no diploma, never fear! For I am here! I got a spot in the marketing industry with zero experience, I simply studied it personally and learned all the big words and how to apply it, again as I was saying once you start educating yourself and becoming determined enough to go for it, a piece of paper given by an institution is no longer required.

Guys experience and credentials can be beat by pure hustle! And determination.

So in conclusion, The only way it gets better for you is when you get better!

Bring out your resum’e highlight your skills and objectives, practice your interviews, be confident and most of all don’t take no for an answer!

How Faking it helps you Make it!

Have you ever encountered the saying fake it till you make it? the idea behind this is to walk talk and feel like the person you want to be, even before you become that certain person, not to confuse it with ego or overconfidence, the phrase “Fake it till you make it” teaches the value of mental strength by internalizing the idea “I CAN MAKE IT BECAUSE I ALREADY AM”.

However how does this work exactly? is it magic? is it physics? or is it an un explainable secret by those who have mastered this power? being someone who continues to apply this value, and have personally seen its wonders in my own life, here’s what I believe is the reason why this works so well.

It Keeps us Mentally and Physically prepared to face challenges

Aiming for the top certainly requires, a certain amount of respect, let’s say if you aim to be a successful entrepreneur, your bound to connect and converse with other entrepreneurs that can be key to your success, and their also bound by human nature to measure your intelligence and even the way you carry yourself, before proceeding to do any business with you.

Now! faking it does not mean, since your aiming to be  a millionaire, you have to get a Ferrari or a Rolex for people to think your worth doing business with, Faking it does not require you to rise above your fellow man, it simply implies you carry yourself with the amount of respect and admiration the person you hope to be requires.

You will never see a top Doctor shaking furiously as he conducts an operation, or a lawyer who stutters while making his case, or a Star basketball player who can’t dribble, and even before they achieved those public status, they were already at the top of their mental game, and carried themselves as if they already were who they are now.

The Most common fear and how to get over it

The no.1 fear of the majority of people is PUBLIC SPEAKINGbe it for a school presentation, a meeting, a report, or even a protest, most of us just hate standing in front of a crowd, imagining them just leaving the event, grumbling, booing, and worse! throwing stuff at you!

I remember when I used to have that fear, I was part of a sales company that required me to do the presentation in front of a crowd, about 20-60 people per presentation, and to be honest “I LOVE SPEAKING!”, I absolutely enjoy public speaking, however I was never this enthusiastic about Public speaking,  in fact I used to despise it, Now here it goes! my personal tested and approved guide to getting rid of the fear of the dreaded PUBLIC SPEAKING.

WE ACTUALLY DON’T FEAR THE SPEAKING PART

first of all we must define what we are really afraid of, which is surprisingly not the actual speaking itself! everyone admires fame, everyone wants to be able to do what great presenters do, now if you admire something or want to be something, you really don’t fear being able to do it.

what we do fear however is FAILING” , there I’ve said it! we do not fear the act of speaking what we do fear is, getting up on stage and your legs start wiggling out of fear, you senses start to increase at an alarming rate, you start to notice all the eyes staring at you, your hands get clammy, you start to sweat, and once you get to actually speaking, your mind draws into a blank, or if you do get to speak your voice lacks volume and conviction, Now all this happens in your mind, before you even walk up on the stage!

so how do we counter this mental virus of Fear in terms of speaking or presenting?

#1 PRACTICE

the first step is practice, and I don’t want to sound like a cliche, but really if you want to lose your fear, start practicing! what I did when I was still very much afraid, is that I made sure I had a “SCRIPT“, word by word I would read it to myself alone, when I got the hang of simply reading it aloud, I would move on to the storytelling phase, I would then read it with emotion, rising to build conviction, stopping for a few seconds to let it sink in, then I would do this for over 3 times or more, then when I got the hang of the emotion, I would go to the bathroom lock the door, and speak in front of the mirror, trust me this helps a lot, it helped me get comfortable with my face, as I practice I get to discover what I need to change and how I need to do it.

And really though if you just keep practicing not only in your head but verbally to yourself if you’re too shy to do it in front of friends, you will feel less afraid, Heck! I used to practice my walk towards the podium several times just to make sure I was doing it right.

#2 GET THAT FIRST WORD OUT!

now the first step I introduced is what I like to call the PRE-LAUNCH, Now we get to the actual act of speaking, let’s say you got rid of the temporary “before you speak” fear now come the actual act of speaking, one thing I know  is that once you are in the actual act of speaking, the moment the words are actually going out of your mouth, this is the time it gets more interesting, however most of us fear a bad reaction from the crowd, what I like to do is, and this has helped me tremendously, is in any presentation I try to surprise the crowd through volume and conviction.

Before you get on the stage, try to think of the very first word! that you will use as an opening word, it may be, HI, Hello, good evening, greetings, etc. and try to say it with as much volume as you can, Now I did not tell you to shout, but with Volume comes Power and with Power  come Attention, and really attention is all you really need in speaking, try to master your opening first word, and once you’ve caught the attention of your listeners or audience, and you start to see those smiles and focus you get from them, speaking after that first word becomes smooth sailing.

#3 LAUGH AT YOUR MISTAKES

Now this third tip is just a bonus, whenever you make a mistake during your presentation don’t ponder on it during, don’t think of how the audience and your team will react, instead try to make a joke out of your mistake by repeating it in a smug kind of way, for example; I have this weird tendency to pronounce words with the letter “P” and replace it with the letter “F” as a PINOY this was a bit of a curse HA-HA! words like Place, Perfect, Power etc.came out as Flace, Ferfect, Fower, yet instead of thinking about my mistake I would laugh and repeat it, and I would do this in such a way that the audience would laugh with me, if not, I could still see smiles in the crowd, so the next time you make an obvious mistake, if you could, try to pass it off as a joke instead.

How to Cheat Time : the power of prediction.

Time, said to be only an illusion and a perception, is known basically as the past, the present and the future, have you ever found yourself on a Sunday morning admiring the sunrise while sipping on your morning coffee? and it seems like only a few seconds after that, you find yourself on a busy Monday subway ride to your Job, and it seems like the cycle goes on and on until finally, your sixty something years old, on a rocking chair admiring the sunset.

It’s a pretty awesome ride this thing we call life, and we sometimes get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives that time is left unappreciated, a wise man once said.

The only way we can truly appreciate time is by making what happens during time our own.

Not everyone enjoys time, as much as others, some even go as far as to end it immediately, and some just let it pass them by and let time happen to them.

What if I told you time is not in control, I’ll even go as far to say that it is non existent, it’s but a man made illusion to keep track of trivial things such as when to get up in the morning or when the school alarm goes off, and that time is experienced differently by each and every living thing in this world and perhaps the next, and what if I told you cheating time is a possibility, that through one simple trick you get to experience time the way you want it to go.

THE CHEAT:

One of the best examples of masters of time are chess players, they get to control time by controlling what happens during time unconsciously by what we all like to call Prediction, they have this amazing capability to make a match go their way by predicting their opponents moves from the start of the set and possibly to the end, and with this prediction of an opponents move, they get to formulate a counter for that move and eventually control what happens in-game, imagine if you applied this teachable talent in your life? How?

By fully understanding and internalizing the outcomes of ones action today, we can fully predict the results we reap tomorrow, we all have this innate ability to predict whether what we do will result to good or bad, and with this understanding we can conclude based on a very basic fact in human psychology: We experience time longer when something feels bad, and we experience time fly by on the moments that feels good.

So! make of this life and this time what you wish of it, you can either feel it go fast forward or make it go slow, but in doing so keep this in mind; from the words of Dr.King.

“It does not matter how long you live, but how well you do it.”

Donald Trump: The Billionaire President

From Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jack Ma, Elon Musk and many more who have all contributed greatly to the development of modern humanity through their unbelievable entrepreneurial mindsets, perhaps none are as controversial and as famous as, the United States Billionaire president, Donald Trump.

Donald Trump is called by many titles, the 71 year old Billionaire, the Genius real estate developer, the tycoon, the awkward twitter poster, etc. and nowadays he is now etched in history as the 45th President of the most influential and powerful country in the entire world! United states of America!

He is one of the epitome and basis of success for entrepreneurs the world over, a couple of years ago before he was inaugurated, Donald Trump, symbolized success probably in the flashiest ways possible, from his sparkling buildings to his boast like interviews, and lets not forget him on the Apprentice America, Donald Trump without a doubt has become unparalleled as an entrepreneur showman.

However the legacy of the 71 year old magnate, has slowly turned sour over these past couple of years after his controversial win for presidency, Not that I’m saying he’s doing a bad job nor is he doing a great job as president, I mean really he poops and picks his nose just like the rest of us, as a human being he has flaws, add the key to the country to those flaws and you’re looking at a common error only with more impact to society. perhaps he’s not to blame,I mean really if you were a eccentric 71 year old businessman, who has tasted all the finer things in life, and perhaps achieved goals far beyond the average human being, and someone comes and says you should rule the country! would you really have the guts to turn that down?

I’m just saying people tend to dump it all on one person whenever life gets low for them, stop blaming the guy, and vote more wisely the next time around, but seriously if ever I’m graced enough for Trump to stumble upon this blog, then all I have to say is that as an entrepreneur he is a legend to me and millions more out there, but as a president he has got to treat this with more urgency and responsibility.

Online Gaming! and how it contributes to productivity.

As a young entrepreneur, I do my best to stay within my daily schedule which sums up to 4-5 hours of sleep 12 hours of work and personal studying, 2 hours of recreation/misc. and finally at least five hours of “online gaming” on Mobile Legends, League of Legends, WOWand at least an hour on Fable 3 (trying to complete the stupid gnome quest)

as an avid gamer myself, all I can say is, depending on who it is or what he or she is playing, gaming has actually showed an increase in productivity levels such are the following effects:

  • Quick thinking and decision-making.
  • Multitasking.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Reading and math skills.
  • Teamwork.
  • Perseverance.

However, video games can also negatively influence a person’s health and well-being:

  • Playing video games too long can affect one’s mind and can cause some health issues.
  • Video games can create aggressive thoughts and allow a person to anger easily, which in turn could make workplace frustrations more difficult to handle.
  • Video games can become addictive and difficult to get away from.
  • Playing video games can also affect a person’s communication skills, making them socially isolated.

Over all video games nowadays provide us with positive effects that far out weigh the negative effects in terms of productivity, so if you ever find yourself regretting playing to much video games just apply all the hard work you put in your gaming life into your personal life.

Looking for a good job? Don’t!

I read an article the other day on the most popular careers for the millennial population , and basically it listed the most popular careers for the past fifty years or so, such are the following; Engineering, Medicine, Education, Law, blah blah blah!  then I read another article, stating that most students suffer from 2 years of unemployment on average after graduating, which is to be frank is longer than it should be.

I have a friend who graduation in the fields of electrical engineering, who ended up becoming a cellphone repairman, a nursing graduate who became a server at a local restaurant, a Law graduate who ended up pursuing a career in telemarketing, bottom line is these friends of mine never in their wildest thoughts dreamed of having the job they have now.

Think Logically

Most college students, have this premature assumption of  what life is after school, persevering in a course that’s in demand Now can already be irrelevant after you graduate, the most common example of this is the nursing boom in the early 2000’s demand for nurses sky rocketed, the majority of those graduating high school, took up nursing halfway towards graduating majority also ended up disappointed with the decline in demand for nurses both local and abroad.

The age of entrepreneurs

one career stands strong though for the past 300 years or so and that’s “entrepreneurship” from the era of war merchants stood behind the scenes growing their influence and reach, and no matter whichever way you look at it entrepreneurs keep the world running, no matter if your a small business owner, or a tycoon,a hot dog vendor or an oil magnate, one way or another your’e contributing more.

bottom line is, should you find yourself struggling to find a passion where you can earn, or failing to get a good job, entrepreneurship is a good fall back or plan B, think of your current hobbies and find a way to market and sell it, do this while still hunting for the career you really want, nothing is more damaging to our personal fulfillment than remaining idle in life.

I chose to write this as the first post on this blog, because of the upcoming batch of fresh graduates here in the Philippines, if you should stumble upon this, with all intent I hope to keep you keeping on, and keep providing this world with the value of potential you possess.
